What level?

A primary factor of success in life is the ability to decide exactly what you want, determine the steps that must be taken to get it, and to accept the responsibility to do the work that will get you there.

In sport and in life we must ask ourselves what level of excellence we want to achieve. Do we want to be the best in the world? Do we want to be a professional? Do we want to be an amateur? Do we want to be a hobbyist?

Each level of excellence requires a different set of sacrifices and commitments and each level can be rewarding. Take for instance Olympic athletes. Some of the athletes seek the glory of gold medals while others seek the glory of competing at the highest levels of international sport and just want to qualify for the games.

I urge you to think about your juggling and life goals in terms of the levels that you wish to attain. From world's best to the amateur in your neighborhood, personal rewards await us all as soon as we decide what we want.

Quote of the Day
First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do. ~Epictetus
